Conventional (also known as traditional or commercial) grown cotton is ordinarily one of the crops most heavily sprayed with pesticides. To bring this delicate plant to harvest, it is heavily sprayed 30 to 40 times a season in extreme cases with pesticides so poisonous they gradually render fields barren. To create finished goods, fabrics are usually colored with toxic dyes and finished with formaldehyde.

Certified organic cotton is cotton grown in fields where the use of pesticides have been discontinued for at least 3 years and where rigorous controls help rebuild the soil's natural fertility. Crop rotations help maintain fertility and soil microbiology.  Coloured cotton is achieved by growing different varieties of cotton plant.

In choosing organic, you are choosing to protect:

 Your baby
 The environment
 Wildife
 The Cotton Growers

Your baby

Our bodies are capable of absorbing up to 60% of what goes against our skin.  Chemicals and toxins can enter the body via breathing in or having them next to your skin.  A baby’s skin is five times thinner than an adults, meaning it is more likely to absorb harmful toxins.

The environment

Conventional cotton is one of the most chemically-dependent crops, and even though it is grown on only 3% of the worlds arable land, it accounts over 25% the worldwide insecticide usage and 10% of agricultural chemicals, costing over £1bn.
It takes roughly one-third of a pound of chemicals (pesticides and fertilizers) to grow enough cotton for just one T-shirt.

Wildlife

Pesticides are manufactured with the aim of killing or inhibiting the natural growth of cotton crop predators, unfortunately only a very small amount of insecticide used actually prevents the infestation.   The balance goes to the leaves, into the soil, into the water, into all forms of wildlife causing devastation to the local eco-system.

The Cotton Growers

20,000 deaths occur each year from pesticide poisoning in developing countries, many of these from cotton farming, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

All of our products are 100% organic and certified by one of the leading certification bodies including the Soil Association, GOTS and Control Union (SKAL).
